What I did during sem break 27 May 2017 - 11 June 2017

27 May 2017
Pre-celebrated my bro's birthday at Paper Lobster. The food there was great - they were mainly seafood like king crabs, lobster, oyster and more unidentified sea creatures haha. Overall, I would give it a 3.5/5. The ambient and customer service great for a special occasion like celebrating birthday. The food is kinda special too because they actually spilled a bucket of seafood on the paper rolled out on our table, which I think is where this restaurant get its name as well. Although the seafood was good, the packages they offer do not include lobster :( So it's like, you gotta order the package and then add on the lobster. The pasta like cabonara taste weird too. Overall, the food wasn't that great and it's quite pricey hence the 3.5 Oppss, sorry.

Helped out to sell fidget spinners at the AIESEC booth at Occupy Beach Street to raise funds for IGV projects. Believe me, it was not an easy task as there were a couple of competitors selling fidget spinners there too. And it was hard to convince people to buy this as it's a more like a trend rather than a therapeutic or ADHD-helping tool. But I'm still glad a lot of people did support us in the name of charity and I'm really touched by how there are still lots of kind and genuine people in this world. And we did raise a decent amount of money for AIESEC too, hooray!

29 May 2017- 1 June 2017
I kicked off my holidays with two of the most amazing rom coms ever - "The Notebook" and "Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging" and then followed by "About Time".
1) The Notebook
This movie is definitely way overdue. I've heard a lot of girls saying that this movie totally broke their heart and they cried a river during the movie, but my motivation to watch the movie really elevated when harry styles said in a casual carpool conversation with james cordan that his favourite rom com is 'The Notebook'. So i made a mental note to watch this movie and i did on the very next day haha.

Noah (Ryan Gosling) & Allie (Rachel McAdams)

This movie is about a love story of a poor yet passionate young man who falls in love with a rich young woman, yet they often struggle and even forced to be apart because of their social differences and the glaring difference in terms of status. I love the narration of the storyteller, I appreciate the slow pacing of the movie that makes it so beautiful and sentimental and I love the on-screen chemistry between these two. Besides, the setting, the american culture and dressing during that period of time is soo on point. Moving on to the characters, I really admire their fierce relationship, like how they are the complete opposite of each other yet they complete each other! Despite their differences in social background, they fought hard to be together because they are both CRAZY with each other. I think they are incredibly fearless and free and somehow rather, I know that this is how people who are in the right relationship should be - fearless and free.

Surprisingly though, it didn't really made me cry as much as I'd love to. I would say that the dementia part was pretty heart-wrenching because like no matter how deeply they love each other, aging and dying are two of the most brutal and inevitable process that everyone has to go through. Love is powerful, but the law of nature still triumphs. Overall, I would say that this movie is definitely deep and moving but I didn't cry a box of tissue for it.

2) Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
I accidentally discovered this film when I was searching for Ed Sheeran's Dive on youtube whereby the song is played while showing the scenes from Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. Since I was really into 'Dive' at that moment, I feel like the scenes really connected to the lyrics and swore to myself that I MUST watch the movie during the holidays because I had exams during that time which sucked.

This movie is about a 14 year-old girl, Georgia/Libby (Georgia Groome) who falls for new student in her school, Robbie (Aaron Taylor). She begins to plot events to get the guy's attention so that he could like her back and slowly, the two of them connected and developed into something bigger than friendship. I love that this movie a very young and innocent relationship. It's HILARIOUS, it's heart-breaking, it's basically all the spices of a teenager's life. I can totally see myself being Libby as she is kinda blunt and her bluntness can sometimes hurt people around her without her knowing. It kinda reminds me of the typical teen movies where the main character's life has gone terribly wrong but in the end she realized that she has to fix the issues and everything is sunny and bright again.

Besides, I LOVE the soundtracks from this movie, they are AMAZING! 'True' by Spandau Ballet just gives me all the right feels, although the most prominent lyrics is practically just "ha-ha-ha-haaa-ha" ._. I would highly recommend this movie if you're into the kind of romantic movie where the hottest guy in the town falls for the clumsy and perfectly imperfect girl (because Aaron Taylor is just too dreamy hah) Overall, this is a very sweet and romantic nickelodeon movie that had me wishing that I'm Georgia and I have a sex god boyfriend.

3) About Time
I think I became quite obsessed with watching rom coms during the holidays that I practically made a LONGGGG list of movies I wanna watch at this point, and About Time stood out from the rest because of its really captivating movie poster.

Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) & Mary (Rachel McAdams)

At Tim's (Domhnall Gleeson) 21st birthday, his father disclosed a family secret to him - all men in his family can travel in time. Tim then uses this special ability to change decisions he made and get him a girlfriend. The theme of this movie mainly evolves around love and family. I love this movie because it is quite slow-paced and every scene of this movie is so effin beautiful. Besides, there are not many time travel movies that can convey the message without confusing the audience, which I think is a plus for "About Time". The transition between space and time is brisk and non-confusing. It's just the kind of movie that you know you're gonna cry at the beginning because it's just so sad and beautiful at the same time and you just PLUNGE right into it. This movie made me realize how scary that one single different act or odds in our lives can make our lives travel in a totally different trajectory. If you have a soft-spot for your family, this movie will definitely make you tear up!

2 June 2017 - 4 June 2017
Went to Subang Jaya & KL with family and had an awesome time there. I have a separate post for the details of my trip HERE.

7 June 2017
Today is hang out day with mah girl, Sze Chyi. We haven't been meeting up for awhile now so we just thought that a chat at some fancy cafe would be nice. She searched for some of the cafes in Penang and finally, we decided to go to Black Kettle cafe! Call me a stalker or whatsoever, but ever since I know this cafe is opened by Christinna Kuan's bf, it has made it to the top number 1 cafe that I want to visit this year.

105, Beach Street
George Town, Malaysia

OPENING HOURS:
Sunday - Thursday: 10am - 11:30pm
Friday - Saturday: 10am - 12:30am
Public Holidays: 10am - 12:30am

Baked Rice (Non Spicy) RM19

I really like that upon entering the cafe, we were welcomed and attended to immediately. The waiters and waitresses looked professional as all of them wore earpieces and I'm assuming they were using that to communicate with each other. They also asked if we were there to have a few bites and coffee or to have main course, and then allocated a suitable seat for us. When we entered, the environment definitely amazed me as it is so spacious and green! They have a few different sections with different designs in the cafe itself as it is super spacious. They don't only offer coffees (the coffees are planted and hand picked in the owner's family owned plantation if not mistaken) and a wide array of breads, but also main courses that blend some "local flavours" into the menu to give the food a whole new "Malaysianized" identity such as "Heh Bee Pasta" (dried shrimps pasta). The food is nice and they are quite generous for the portion as well. Overall, I'd give this cafe a 4.75/5 as everything is excellent, except for the part that it didn't surprise me in any way. Would definitely revisit in future for good environment and good food with good company.

Later on, we went to Gurney to shooppp.

10 June 2017
Shopping day with mummy and bro. Got my ears pierced as well *yatta*

Tried on the Power Puff Girls' series of Peri-Pera at Watson and kinda like the classic red lips look
After some shopping, we went to have dinner at our usual favourite place which is the "I Mum Mum" shop that sells Pan Mee. Since my childhood, no other Pan Mee can ever replace the one that my mum and dad used to bring me where they sell Pan Mee under huge trees at a residential area, but this is the first Pan Mee that I ACTUALLY LIKE besides my childhood one! The "I Mum Mum" shop even has another shop that sells fish head bee hoon now, and it tasted really good cause my mum ordered it.

After that, we went to the 3 Leg Cat cafe 三脚猫 to have a drink and light snacks. This cafe was all over Facebook about a year ago. The name of this cafe might induce curiosity in most of us I believe, but after visiting that cafe, I still don't see why it is called 3 Leg Cat cafe (maybe I'll find out next time). ANYWAY, moving on to the settings, environment and everything, I think that it's quite chilled. I can see that the posters being hung on the walls are minimalistic, while the other designs quite complicated and full of colours. There were A LOT of people there on Saturday night and the tables were full!

Although we didn't get to eat the main courses, I would really recommend the desserts, especially the Mr Caramelized Banana waffle! Can't deny I really love caramel but I swear that I'm not biased at all. The pancake was crunchy, the ice cream was sweet and lovely and the banana and caramel drizzling were perfect! Definitely go for this one the next time you're at 3 Leg Cat cafe. Overall, I would give this cafe a 5/5 as the ambient is really good and chilled. Their customer service was good as well. As for the food, it was amazing and we savoured every last bit of the waffle. Oh, and I just thought that might be note worthy to mention that they  actually provide hand towels for their customers in the bathroom by the basin! I also saw that they have a duty roaster to make sure that everything is clean and hygenic in the toilet which really shows their integrity.

That's all for this post. I hope you guys enjoyed reading!

Love, J.
