I'm sure that a lot of you know that I have a bestie called Sze Chyi from secondary school. That's right, we do everything together and basically live in each others closet since forever? Fortunately and unfortunately, she started her uni last year around August/September and since then, we meet up less frequently and of course we couldn't let go of any chances of meeting up with each other whenever she's back!
We didn't plan to meet up purposely to celebrate black day, but I just feel like making it as my title because black day is when single people meet and celebrate "being single" together, and both of us are single at the mo and we're kind having fun so yeah.

you're wrong Google, we're proud single ladies who celebrate being single okay .. secretly me: yeah you're right, it's kinda sad and depressing hah :((
Our first stop was S.P.I.C.E because Sze Chyi wanted to redeem the prize she won from a contest. She submitted the bff photos we took in Langkawi for the contest and holy cow she won! Initially, she thought she won some intricate chopsticks but for lord's sake, she won RM100 of MPH vouchers (!!!) For a bookworm (or more like book hoarder) like me, I was sooo excited when I saw the MPH vouchers cause usually books at MPH are more expensive then Popular, so I think it's really (!!!)
Then we went to a cafe just a stone's throw away from S.P.I.C.E - Black Door Coffee & Tea. Located at Arena Curve, which is an area for all the foodies in the world like you and me, the theme of the store is mainly black and grey colour. It's squeaky clean and industrial, with pops of greens in the interior. The theme of the cafe allows the customers to relax and immerse themselves in this modern cocoon while savouring the wide array of Western food in the menu.

Food wise, we decided we need to share the food cause we were broke AF and went ahead to order all their signature dishes and desert. For the main course, we ordered Rosemarry Grilled Chicken; for the drink, we ordered a Mango Passion Fruit Yogurt Soda because we thought "yogurt soda" sounds cool; for the dessert, we ordered their signature Charcoal Chocolate Cronut because it's their must-have dessert!

Rosemarry Grilled Chicken (RM23) // the chicken should be the main focus but I'm no professional food blogger so please don't mind
I absolutely adore the Rosemarry Grilled Chicken! The fries were regular fries and the salad was a regular salad. However, the chicken was something extraordinary in Western fusion. I actually love
everything rose hence, I ordered this dish cause it has the word
"rosemarry" in the name HAHA but it tastes surprisingly good! Normally,
chicken meat would be stewed or grilled with a tinge of saltiness but
this is one sweet badass. The chicken tasted so succelent and the sweet sauce really complimented the dish. REALLY GOOD! Highly recommend this dish!!!
Fact: I actually never had cronut before and this was my first time. First of all, can we give the beautiful plating some credits? They used strawberries, mint leaves and drops of chocolate syrup to make such a minimalistic and pretty platting! Then, let's talk about the ice-cream. The Häagen-Dazs ice-cream on the pile of crushed cookies was good, but I feel like it was a little too sweetening and rich for my preference. My bestie who doesn't eat chocolate at all despised the ice-cream HAHA However, once we ate the black beast there, OOLALAAAA... it tasted like heaven! It was served warm and tasted crunchy on outer layer but fluffy and buttery on the inside. What happens when you eat the cold ice-cream together with the warm cronut? made for angels in heaven!

Mango Passion Fruit Yogurt Soda (RM14)
We ordered the Mango Passion Fruit Yogurt Soda because we were so thirsty, and yogurt soda sounds cool! The presentation of the drink was as gorg as all the other food at Black Door Coffee & Tea. Although, the taste was a let down. I would say that it tasted a little sweeter than I'd like it to, and I don't taste the "soda" at all. It tasted like the Indian yogurt drink lassi to be honest. Nonetheless, I think people who prefers their drink to be sweet and fruity can give this drink a go but I wouldn't recommend it for the price.
Overall, I think that this cafe is definitely worth a visit. Their signature dishes were pretty awesome and the prices were pretty reasonable as well. The drinks were slightly are expensive, but I think the food here makes it very unique because the taste was divine and you probably couldn't find a doppleganger of the food elsewhere.
Overall rating:
After lunch, we took Grab from Black Door Coffee & Tea to Gurney Plaza. We planned to watch "A Quiet Place" starring John Krasiniki and Emily Blunt (who are real couples in real life). Krasinki is also the director of the movie, which I only found out after watching the movie. I don't usually go for horror movies but I've seen Chris Pratt recommended this on his Instagram in the middle of a traffic jam right after he came out from the cinema. Plus, a lot of my coursemates were saying that it's sooo goooddd. So I thought, why not?
Needless to say, the movie was soooo amazing! It was very intense and scary. This story is actually about monsters who attacks humans through listening to sounds humans make. More than half of the movie was in complete silence, the actors just used sign language / gestures to communicate with each other. The utter silence and tension in the air made me feel so scared to even breathe... or fart.
Besides the scary part, the larger part I see in this movie was family issues and love. It is not just a typical jumpy horror movie. The family theme is so touching, and I can really see how prominent parential love is portrayed throughout the movie - parents are always willing to sacrifice themselves for their children and how forgiving and unconditional their love is towards their children. I have to agree with my bestie when she says that the line "What are we (parents) if we can’t protect them (their children)?" is so so important. It shows how brave the parents are or can be for their children, just to shield them from danger and hostility.

goo watch now if you haven't already
After the movie, we bought Dirty Bom (I called it Dirty Bun throughout my whole vlog lel, the name too fancy) from Original Cheesecake to have a taste of what's the rave about. We bought 6 dirty boms for (RM35) which is cheaper if you buy 1 for RM6.90 I got 3 for my family, Sze Chyi got 1 for her mum and we got ourselves one each.
After picking up my gift, we wondered around Gurney Paragon as we couldn't find the perfect spot to eat our Dirty Bom. I couldn't tahan my messy and frizzy hair, so I went to Daiso to buy some elastic bands, which cost me RM5.90 but I would say that they are pretty pratical. They come in a total of 8 elastics in a packet with different colours that are so gorg!
At last, we found a cafe called "Merry Me" and settled down. We ordered their Lemon Rose (yeah it's rose again xD) It was pretty sweet and tasty, and I actually preferred this one over the one we had in the morning because this one was more soda-ish and gassy.

Before eating the dirty bom, the "dirty bom" I had in mind was more like a bun... not a puff. I think this is one thing you need to be alert of because there are a lot of varieties / version for the same thing. First of all, the chocolate powder sprinkled all over the bun has become sticky just merely after half an hour after purchasing. I think it doesn't serve the purpose of "dirty bom" anymore because the dirt can't really go all over your face. Secondly, I don't like to eat puffs, so naturally I'm not a huge fan of a custard puff with chocolate powder sprinkled all over it. If you're a puff fan, then you can probably try the hyped "dirty bom" but if you're not, then I would suggest you to steer clear off of this!
